American Idol Results: The New “Save” rule/Plus - Anoop Desai was saved again!
Jasmine Murray and Jorge Nunez were both sent packing last night. Those American Idol Gods must love Anoop Desai! That Dog will keep his bone for at least one more week. He’s out of the doghouse again, for the time being. There must have been a couple million Idol fans that expected Anoop to “Beat It” out of this season’s American Idol last night. Simon Cowell didn’t want him around any longer. Yet, America voted and Anoop received enough of your votes to keep him in this American Idol game.
There is a new rule in place now. The judges get to save someone from leaving and over-ride the votes, but only once. The judge’s “Save”, if used; has to be used before the top 5 is reached in the competition.
Once the judges concur that America should not have voted a performer out of American Idol, they can save that person from leaving. The “Save” can only be used one time. Once they use this wild card, it is gone for good. Wouldn’t it be nice if American Idol would just come out and tell us about all the rest of the upcoming rule changes, now?
This new “Save” rule, also helps take care of a very delicate matter that a few departing contestants have experienced in past seasons of Idol. Once the votes are in and Ryan Seacrest breaks the news to performers - they are going home; the departing contestants sing their song from the night before, in hopes of the judges will save them from leaving. This might save a few departing contestants from crying, before having to perform their swan songs. Does this “Save” card give more power to the Idol Judges? You better believe it does.
The new rule did not help Jasmine Murray from crying, or save her. This young girl’s heart and hopes were still dashed. Jasmine Murray had better not throw in the towel. This young girl has a gift. I hope Jasmine tries out again for next season.
American Idol had a couple of guest stars perform last night. Kanye West drove last night’s Idol audience over the top with his performance. Kelly Clarkson showed up to boost her newly released album, too. Is Kelly putting on a few extra pounds? Maybe her tour will shed a few pounds for her.
At the end of last night’s “results” show, the most unexpected twist of events unfolded. Jorge Nunez was the second performer to be eliminated, receiving America’s least amount of votes. The judges did not save Jorge from going home either.
This clearly shocked Anoop Desai, who had almost given up hope of sticking around for another week on American Idol. You could see it in his face, throughout the evening. Anoop expected to be eliminated for performing “Beat It”; a song that the judges felt should not have been touched and was performed by Anoop badly.
Had Anoop been told that he was eliminated, Simon Cowell would have never saved this performer from going home. Simon wanted this dog to leave the Kodak Theater, last night and go back to Chapel Hill. If Simon did not know the resulting votes last night beforehand, you can bet that he was upset over America’s votes to keep Anoop in the running.
